3D novelty cakes are  challenging and so, so much fun to make. When asked to replicate a musician’s much loved lute, my initial reaction was ‘Yay!’ but then closer to crunch time of actually creating it I was thinking “How??” !! Too late for that now isn’t it!

Carved from chocolate mud cake, decorated in fondant and hand painted – this lute was a surprise for Alex of Avie & Lulu husband’s 40th.
Thanks for the opportunity to get out of my confort zone!! Lol!

Body is cake with hand painted details and woodgrain finish,  neck carved from styrofoam and finished off with dental floss strings! OPA!
The birthday boy loved it and his family was delighted – they couldn’t believe it was a cake! Now that’s the reaction you want!
