Draped in love..
It seems like ages since I’ve done a wedding cake, lately all my orders have been for children’s cakes – which I love doing – but I’ve missed the towering tiers of a wedding cake!
The blushing bride wore a gorgeous gown, the subtlest shade of pewter, which featured a wrapped effect on the bodice and over one shoulder, highlighted with stunning droplets of Swarovsky crystals. The dress was used as the inspiration for this cake.
For the crystal drops, I threaded the crystals onto elastic beading string and tied that onto florists wire, made a little hook and positioned them in the cake. This allowed for easy removal without having to worry about picking crystals off fondant. Best of all, the bride got to keep them for her wedding album.
Under the fondant and crystals hides a dense chocolate fudge cake, filled with a rich dark chocolate ganache laced with Cointreau. It weighed an absolute tonne!
