This event was for a very special little man, my dear friend’s baby Michael. His christening was a truly special celebration for his family and I was honoured to be able to fill his dessert table with cakes and sweets for our sweet Michael!
I was really looking forward to creating this cake for little Eleni’s first birthday. This is a replication of a fabulous children’s stationery design in cake. Sydney based company Paper Eskimo have a gorgeous range of stationery and partyware – this Hot Air Balloon is no exception.
Here is a cake created for an upcoming publication called “Spoonful”.
I was invited to contribute to this magazine, that is growing up to be a short and inspiring little publication which, in light of our insanely busy lives and increasing ‘oh no, I must find time to read x’ can be finished by the end of a bus ride. The point is that it’s quick to consume, makes you smile, and leaves you feeling generally uplifted for your day. Each issue, Spoonful nominates a random fabulous object that makes us smile. Then they have a page of images of that object attached to links of fabulous blogs/artists/designers/products. The launch issue featured, yep you guessed it – hot air balloons!
I thought I’d make the most of my newly acquired Extra Icing teddy figurine tutorial and pop those cute little teddies in a balloon…
The hot air balloon and the basket are both carved from chocolate fudge cake and decorated with fondant. My recently acquired clay gun has made life easier and now fine sugar ropes are a cinch!
Check it out!
